Medicare & VA Coordination of Benefits

What You Need to Know About Medicare & VA Coordination of Benefits:

Veteran-in-hospitalIf a veteran is in need of emergency transport to a facility, they must request a VA facility to get paid by the VA.  Have it documented that they are a Vet and need to go to a VA ER.  If the ambulance cannot take them there either because of time or distance, once they are in the ER, the Veteran or family should again ask to be taken to a VA facility.  Make sure it is documented.  If the VA is contacted, and the VA tells the healthcare personnel to stay at the civilian hospital, the costs will be covered for this individual by the VA if this is all documented.
