Adult day centers were formed to give families a break from caregiving and to provide a social, safe atmosphere for older adults who should not be at home by themselves. Most adult day centers provide a meal or two and snacks, social activities, and music. Some centers have an aviary, gardening area, reminiscence activities, and may offer day trips to points of interest. Some centers will provide bathing and dressing assistance for an extra charge. They may have a foot doctor and other professionals visit members. Each center or club has a personality. Visit several before committing to a regular schedule. Adults may choose to attend twice a week, one day a week or every day. It is up to the older adult. Some centers will pick up and return the senior for an extra charge.
