What is a Private Duty Nurse?

A private duty nurse is an Registered Nurse who administers medications and performs other nursing activities.  Private Duty Nurses are used by in-home health agencies to manage the CNAs (Certified Nurse Assistants) and monitor the medical issues of patients they are serving.  They are hired by nursing agencies to assist with nursing activities.
